The failure to resolve inflammation leads to chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Resolution is an active process mediated by Specialized Pro-resolving Mediators (SPMs), including Lipoxins and Resolvins, which are biosynthesized from dietary n-3 and n-6 fatty acids. SPMs promote the resolution of inflammation in conditions like non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Notably, Resolvins D1 (RvD1) and D2 (RvD2) also inhibit cancer metastasis by suppressing the Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT). They achieve this by counteracting TGF-β1-induced molecular changes, which reduces cancer cell migration and invasion. Therefore, enhancing SPM production through nutritional strategies presents a promising approach for managing and preventing chronic inflammatory diseases, including cancer.
